This spice is made from dried rhizomes of turmeric.
Turmeric, due to its color, is also called Indian saffron.
Ground turmeric is used for adding color to rice, pasta and vegetables marinated in vinegar. It is also added to sauces, poultry soups, cream soups, and omelets. It blends well with meals from beans and soybeans.
A pinch of turmeric added to yeast dough or layer cake will turn it to an attractive, yellow color.
