Hot pepper

Dried, ground pods of pepper are used as this spice. Pepper had become popular in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries; now it is used worldwide. Depending on the variety it can have a taste ranging from mild and sweet to very hot. Pepper adds flavor and color to prepared meals. Pepper is widely used as a culinary spice, flavoring such foods as meat dishes, sauces, cottage cheese, lunchmeat, salads, fish, rice, and poultry meals.
