Ginger Zingiber officinale

Its ground rhizome of the attractive flower plant comes from Asia and is used in Asian cuisine, where is second in importance only to salt. The plant is classified as being monocotyledonous. It has lanceolate leaves, and is grown in the form of fleshy, bulbous rhizomes. They are ten centimetres long, and are flat on both sides. Ginger contains about 2 % of ethereal oil, ginger oil and a strong ingredient called gingerol. Ginger oil is obtained from rhizomes. Many seasoning mixes contain dried and mulled ginger. Gingerbreads, meat, poultry and fish are seasoned with ginger.
