| Seed Coriander |
Coriandrum sativum |

Seed coriander grows wild in southern Europe and in the Near East.
It belongs to the family Umbelliferae and is one of the most popular seasoning herbs in the world.
It grows in white or pinkish colour. A spherical, light-brown schizocarp that does not split into parts constitues the seed. Unripe seeds are fragrant of bed-bugs. Fragrance vanishes as seeds ripen.
In the kitchen all the parts of the plant can be used and each part is characterised by a peculiar aroma. Leaves are similar in taste to aniseeds which are sweet and evocative of orange peel.
Coriander is aromatic, and although it is used in the kitchen on a regular basis, a lot of people think that it requires getting used to.
